FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. — Principal Bobby Davis bolted down the hallway at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School ready to break up a brawl.

What he got instead was a full-throated “Happy Birthday” and a school-wide love fest.

Students staged a fake fight in the cafeteria Thursday, drawing Davis, in his first year as principal, into the chaos. Video shows the bald, gray-shirted administrator sprinting hard, then grabbing a student in a gray hoodie to separate the supposed combatants as dozens of kids watched and filmed.

Seconds later, the script flipped. The crowd erupted into song, cheers, and hugs. Davis was swarmed, lifted, and celebrated as a portable speaker blasted music. The would-be fighters became the principal’s biggest fans, grinning and jumping with him in the middle of the red-floored cafeteria.

Student De’Zayviun Watkins, who dreamed up the prank, later wrote that Davis “single-handedly changed me for the better” and that the things the principal has done at LFO are “memories I’d die with.”

Davis is no outsider. He graduated from the school in 1994, later taught and coached there, and returned as an assistant principal before taking the top job. One year in, students and staff already treat him like family.

Online, the video — originally posted by Lauren Cantrell — drew a flood of praise calling Davis a “warrior” and “legend” who has earned the kids’ loyalty the old-fashioned way.

Happy birthday, Principal Davis. Next time, maybe just check the calendar before you charge.
