In a blood-chilling CCTV video that has resurfaced online, a woman can be seen desperately fighting for her life after her husband repeatedly strikes her with a metal pipe outside their family shop in Vietnam, before grabbing a kitchen knife and plunging it into his chest.
The shocking footage, filmed on the evening of 25 December 2025 in Lam Giang commune, Lao Cai province, captures the brutal attack in a roadside eatery area lined with wooden tables, plastic chairs and parked scooters. It begins with the couple arguing as the husband, identified locally as Mr TQH, 42, sits at a table with another man. Moments later he leaps up, seizes a long metal pipe and begins striking his wife, Ms NTH, 40, who is wearing a yellow-orange top.
She tries to shield her head and face with her arms as the blows land, while the second man attempts to intervene. The husband continues the assault, forcing her backwards against the tables. In the frantic struggle that follows, she manages to break free for a few seconds, grabs a large kitchen knife from the nearby stall, and drives it into his chest as he lunges at her again.
The man staggers, still clutching the pipe, before collapsing to the ground. He tries to get back up and continue the attack, but the wound proves fatal. Other people, including two women, rush over as he falls beneath an overturned table. He dies at the scene.
The entire sequence, lasting just over a minute, has been shared widely on social media in recent days, prompting strong reactions from viewers who described it as a clear case of self-defence. Many commented that the woman had no choice after being repeatedly struck with the pipe while trying to protect herself.
Local authorities confirmed that Ms NTH was detained shortly after the incident while police investigated whether the stabbing was justified. Under Vietnamese law, self-defence is recognised, but the use of lethal force that results in death is closely examined and can still lead to criminal charges, even when the victim was the initial aggressor. Police said the attack took place at the couple’s own shop, opposite their home, and that the husband had become aggressive during an argument.
Neighbours told local media the couple had a history of domestic disputes. The video shows the wife appearing to try to walk away at one point before the husband grabs the pipe and resumes the beating. After the stabbing, she steps back, still holding the knife, as her husband collapses.
The footage has drawn comparisons to other high-profile cases of women using force to stop violent partners. Supporters online have argued that the repeated pipe strikes constituted an immediate threat to her life, while others have called for a full investigation into the couple’s relationship. As of the latest reports, no final decision on charges against the wife has been publicly announced.
The video continues to circulate more than ten months after the Christmas Day attack, with many viewers describing the woman’s actions as a last-resort act of survival after she was cornered and beaten in public.
