The musclebound star of Amazon’s hit series “Reacher” just showed he can do more than break bones and deliver deadpan one-liners.

Alan Ritchson, 43, has the internet buzzing after a clip of him singing Michael Jackson’s 1983 classic “Human Nature” exploded online. In the roughly one-minute hotel-room video, the 6-foot-3 actor wears a black baseball cap and fitted black T-shirt that highlights his tattoos and imposing frame. Eyes closed and hands clasped or gesturing, he leans into the song’s soft, yearning melody with surprising control and emotion as the lyrics flash across the screen.

The clip is edited with shots of Ritchson as the stoic Jack Reacher alongside images of Michael Jackson, underscoring the wild contrast between the tough-guy image and the smooth vocal delivery. Ritchson shared it with a self-deprecating caption calling it “a weak hotel room attempt at #HumanNature for your viewing pleasure or scorn,” but viewers were having none of it.

Fans flooded comments and reposts praising his tone and range. “Reacher can sing too? Some guys got handed the whole toolbox,” one wrote. Others compared it to the quiet coworker who unexpectedly destroys karaoke night, with many admitting they never expected the action star to have pipes.

This isn’t entirely out of left field. Long before he became a streaming action hero, Ritchson auditioned for “American Idol” during Season 3 in 2004. Then a 20-year-old Abercrombie & Fitch model from Florida, he serenaded Paula Abdul with Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” dropping to one knee while Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson stepped out of the room so she could get the full private performance. All three judges sent him through to Hollywood, though he was later cut.

Ritchson has said music was his first love, he performed in school musicals, studied music and theater on scholarship, and even released an independent album years later. His “Idol” experience is what first brought him to Los Angeles and helped steer him toward acting.

The latest viral moment proves those skills never fully went away. For a guy known for playing a nearly invincible former military cop, the soft side is landing just as hard with audiences.
