Suspect Brutally Stomps Female NYPD Officer In Face, Chokes Her During Vicious Lower Manhattan Arrest, Good Samaritans Forced To Jump In

A 26-year-old Brooklyn man allegedly dragged a female NYPD officer onto a Lower Manhattan sidewalk, stomped her in the face, and choked her while she and her partner tried to arrest him for harassing customers inside a Broadway store, according to police.

The chaotic struggle unfolded Monday near Broadway and Vesey Street outside 222 Broadway after the suspect refused to leave the business and allegedly threatened to punch an employee in the face, cops said. Officers from the 1st Precinct responded and moved to place him under arrest, but he fought back violently.

During the melee, the female officer was knocked to the ground. The suspect allegedly dragged her onto the sidewalk, stomped on her face, and placed his foot on her neck, police said. When one of the officers tried to deploy a Taser, the man allegedly grabbed it and hurled it away before wrapping an arm around the female officer’s neck and squeezing, according to the account.

Video of the incident shows the suspect, wearing red pants and a dark top, locked in a prolonged struggle with the two officers amid traffic, construction barriers, and onlookers. Officers are seen wrestling him toward the ground as the confrontation spills onto the sidewalk.

A group of bystanders rushed in and helped the officers pin the man down until he was restrained and taken into custody. The suspect, who lives in East New York within the 75th Precinct, was later charged with robbery in the second degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, harassment, criminal trespass, trespass, and disorderly conduct, police said.

The incident is the latest in a string of high-profile confrontations involving NYPD officers in the city, with the video circulating widely online.
