A spinning mixer ride at a fair in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri turned into pure chaos in the early hours of Tuesday, and the video that leaked online is the kind of thing that makes you rethink every carnival you’ve ever been to. Around 1:30 a.m. on October 20 at the Dussehra Ground in F-Block, the gate on a cylindrical “Mixer” ride broke while it was still operating. Two people fell off. One of them later died.

The footage that spread across social media shows exactly what you’d expect from a temporary fair ride that just lost a critical piece of its safety equipment mid-spin. Riders are already plastered to the walls by centrifugal force when things go wrong. There’s smoke or dust in the air, people flailing, bright lights, and the kind of collective panic that only happens when everyone inside the ride realizes the floor and the walls are no longer doing what they’re supposed to do. Someone slapped a “Panic was real” text overlay on it later, which is both accurate and the understatement of the year.

Police said the two people who fell were Gudiya, 27, and a man named Ravi, both from Uttam Nagar. They were first taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital and then transferred to RML Hospital. Gudiya died during treatment roughly two days later. Ravi was injured and remained under care. Investigators registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering endangering life and negligence involving machinery. A mobile crime team checked the scene, and the ride was shut down afterward.

The fair organizer, Sunil Jindal, told reporters the two riders simply lost their balance and that the ride itself wasn’t malfunctioning. He also said the attractions had gone through safety checks. That claim is sitting next to a video in which the gate is described by police as having broken while the ride was still moving, and next to the fact that one of the people who fell is now dead. Temporary fairgrounds and traveling carnival equipment have a long history of these kinds of incidents; this one just happened to be filmed from inside the cylinder.

The clip itself is short and ugly. People are jumping, bracing, and losing their footing as the ride keeps turning. Outside the structure, more people are standing around looking like they just watched something they can’t unsee. It’s the kind of video that travels fast precisely because it looks like every worst-case scenario people joke about when they see a carnival set up in a field somewhere.

As of Wednesday, police were still investigating. The ride remains closed. And the video keeps circulating with captions that range from dark jokes to straightforward “this is why some people just don’t get on these things.” The gap between the organizer’s account and what the footage plus the police preliminary findings show is still sitting there, unresolved.
