A heart-stopping video has captured the terrifying moment a towering construction crane toppled onto an elevated monorail track in Brazil, only for an oncoming train to slam into it seconds later, hurling metal debris onto a packed road below.

The dramatic incident unfolded on Saturday in São Paulo’s eastern zone, near Camilo Haddad station on the city’s Line 15-Prata monorail system.

Footage filmed from above shows the massive crane already sprawled across the tracks as a sleek white monorail train races toward it at speed.

In a flash, the train ploughs into the heavy machinery, sending the crane’s long boom and twisted wreckage tumbling violently onto the multi-lane avenue beneath.

Cars and motorcycles continue streaming along the busy road as the debris crashes down, narrowly missing vehicles in what witnesses described as a near-catastrophe.

In the same nail-biting clip, a man can be seen sprinting desperately away from the impact zone just moments before the wreckage hits the street, an escape that left viewers breathless.

According to local reports, the crane operator was injured in the collapse and required medical attention, but all passengers aboard the monorail were safely evacuated with no injuries.

Metro officials confirmed that services were temporarily suspended on the affected stretch while crews assessed the damage, and a local power cut was reported in the area.

The road below was closed as emergency teams worked to clear the scene, with Civil Defence teams later confirming no structural damage to nearby buildings.
