A man went on a first date at Taco Mac, sat down across from a woman he presumably thought was there to get to know him, and watched her order ten to-go meals for her three kids who were nowhere near the restaurant. He then got up and left. The whole thing was filmed by the woman herself, and the clip has been making the rounds because it is exactly as unhinged as it sounds.
This is not a misunderstanding about who covers the check. This is a woman treating a stranger she just met like a human ATM and a DoorDash driver rolled into one. First dates used to be low-stakes ways to figure out if two people actually like talking to each other. Somewhere along the way a subset of people decided they were also opportunities to offload grocery bills and childcare costs onto whoever shows up. Ordering ten meals for children who are not present is not “getting food for later.” It is using the date as a free meal program with a plus-three.
The man in the video does what a growing number of men are doing in these situations: he exits. There is no drawn-out argument, no lecture about “boundaries,” and no attempt to negotiate down from ten meals to something reasonable. He simply walks. That is the only rational response when the evening has already revealed that the person across the table sees you primarily as a funding source. Plenty of guys would have paid for their own meal and the woman’s meal out of habit and still felt uneasy about the takeout order. Covering an entire household’s dinner on night one is a different category of request.
People defending this kind of thing usually land on some version of “kids have to eat.” That is true and also irrelevant. The children’s father, the woman’s own income, public assistance programs, and any number of other arrangements exist for that purpose. A first date is not one of them. Treating it like one signals either a complete lack of awareness or a deliberate calculation that the man is unlikely to object. Both are bad signs.
This clip is not an isolated outlier. It is one more data point in a pattern that has become hard to ignore: a portion of women have absorbed the idea that men should subsidize their existing responsibilities as the price of entry into their lives. When men decline, the reaction is often surprise that the subsidy was not automatic. The man in this video declined in the most straightforward way possible. He left the restaurant, left the check situation unresolved in her favor, and removed himself from the transaction entirely.
First dates are supposed to answer a simple question: do I want to see this person again? In this case, the answer arrived before the food did. Ten to-go meals for three kids is not a quirky personality trait or a harmless misunderstanding. It is a preview of what every subsequent interaction would look like, and the man correctly decided he had already seen enough.
