An Afghan police sniper shot down an unusual non-native bird flying along an highway in northern Faryab province with an antenna, explosives and an electronic device strapped to its body, Monday. The bird exploded after being hit by the police, scattering "suspicious metal objects" across the highway, provincial police chief Abdul Nabi Ilham said to the press. Although the police are still examining the remains of the shot down bird, they have already identified a GPS device and a small camera strapped to the animal's body. The bird was first spotted in a neighbouring area to a police checkpoint, where the Taliban are active. Investigators speculate that the bird may have been deployed on a surveillance mission.
