A bloodied kidnap victim was found staggering barefoot down the streets with a rope around his neck after fleeing from a cave where he was brutally beaten.
Juan Ramón Cordero was filmed stumbling across the road with his hands tied behind his back in Carrizal, Las Palmas, one of the Canary Islands.
The victim claimed his captors bundled him into the boot of a car and beat him for four hours because he owed them 50 euros, before dumping him in a cave on the outskirts of the town.
Video shot by an astonished driver shows Mr Cordero forcing the car to stop by standing in the road, so that he could ask for help.
According to the victim, he was kidnapped on Monday at midday and about four hours later he was able to flee and ask for help
It was not clear how his kidnappers attempted to prevent him from leaving the cave, or how he escaped.
When police attended the scene, they released the man from his bindings and ensured he was taken to a nearby clinic.
Police sources said they had confirmed that the man had been kidnapped.
They added that no ransom had been demanded from his family or other people known to him.
The man did not want to reveal the names of his alleged captors, but identified three of his attackers to police several hours later, La Provincia reported.
It was reported that the suspects were already known to the police - who arrested them on suspicion of kidnapping.
Police are now searching for the main suspect. It was not clear whether he had named them or simply described them.
The investigation is ongoing.
