Video footage shows the horrific moment a taxi driver is stabbed by one of his customers after he threatened to report the man for not paying for his cab ride on May 20.
The taxi driver from Shenzhen in southern China's Guangdong province said the passenger had run up a fare of 172 yuan (£19.48) however when they arrived at his destination he didn't have any money on him.
He drove to hospital following the stabbing where doctors said the blade missed his heart by one centimetre.
CCTV footage inside the taxi captured the moment the passenger stabbed the taxi driver in his side.
The taxi driver surnamed Zhang told reporters: 'The customer asked me to wait for a couple of minutes promising to bring the cash to me, but I told him this was impossible.
'I then said I should just drive him to the police station - then he stabbed me.'
Footage shows the violent struggle between the two as the man overpowers the taxi driver.
The passenger can be heard saying: 'I didn't want to kill you, but if I don't you'll turn me in.'
The taxi driver tells the passenger 'it's fine' before the man makes an escape leaving Zhang unable to catch his breath.
He drove himself to the hospital calling police on the way.
According to doctors, Zhang is lucky to be alive, with the blade missing his heart by about one centimetre.
The passenger fled the scene and police are continuing to search for him.
