Fort Wayne Police on Friday released bodycam video of an officer shooting a man in November when the man reached for a knife.
The video, which is over seven minutes long, shows 18-year-old Wyatt Beckler calling 911 on at 1:01 p.m. Nov. 2nd and reporting that a white man in a blue hoodie just pulled a gun on him and ran away.
In the video, Beckler is wearing a blue hoodie.
Dashcam video shows Officer Andrew Fry pulling up behind Beckler on Poplar near Hoagland.
The officer tells Beckler to let me see your hands, but Beckler turns and walks away.
Fry pulls up closer and again tells Beckler to show his hands. Beckler starts walking toward the officer with his hands up, then turns when the officer tells him to.
At that point, Beckler reaches for something in his pocket and Fry fires.
Beckler died at a local hospital.
Police say they found a knife on Beckler.
They say before the shooting, Beckler searched the internet for videos of police shootings and "suicide by cop."
The Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's office on Friday cleared Fry in the shooting, saying it was justified.
