Brazil-Two men died, this Saturday afternoon (19), in a serious traffic accident on the BR-316, in the city of Codó, 290 km from São Luís.
The men were on a motorcycle, which collided head-on with a van, at km 485 of the federal highway. A woman, who was in the van, was also injured in the accident, but her life is not in danger.
Witnesses reported that one of the occupants of the motorcycle got out of the vehicle to retrieve a shirt that had fallen on the road and, when the duo left on the motorcycle, the rider entered with the motorcycle in the opposite direction and collided head-on with the van. Security camera footage from a commercial establishment, which on the side of the highway, caught the exact moment of the accident.
According to information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident happened at around 4:20 pm, involving a black Yamaha/Factor Ybr125 K motorcycle, with license plate from the municipality of Codó/MA, and a white I/Citroen Jumpy Furgaopk van, with license plate. Teresina/PI.
According to the surveys carried out by the PRF, the motorcycle involved in the accident was heading down the road (from Caxias to Codó), when it entered the opposite direction and collided head-on with the van.
The driver and passenger of the motorcycle died in the accident, identified as: Alan Santos da Silva, 28 years old, who was riding the motorcycle at the time of the accident; and Wanderson Gomes da Costa, aged 30, who was on the pillion. Both victims were residents of Codó.
Still according to the PRF, in the collision, the motorcycle passenger fell on the roof of the van and stayed there until he was removed by the rescue team.
In the van, a 55-year-old passenger, the driver's wife, had minor injuries.
The PRF also informed that the probable cause of the accident was the fact that Alan Santos was driving the motorcycle drunk. The driver of the van took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative.
