Body-cam footage has captured the moment a constable was allegedly stabbed by an 18-year-old man after being called to a Melbourne home.
Police were called to an aggravated burglary at a home on George Frederick Road in Cranbourne West on Tuesday afternoon.
When officers arrived, a man allegedly armed with a knife lunged at constable Jack Van Brummelen.
Vision showed Brummelen thrown onto the ground before he was then allegedly stabbed in the thigh.
"This underscores what our members go through every single day they come to work," Police Association Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt said.
"They get spat on, they get sworn at, they get stabbed at work."
Brummelen, who joined the force just 18 months ago, has since undergone surgery and is recovering from the ordeal.
"My team have reached out to him and his partner to check on their welfare, and we'll continue to do that through the week," Gatt said.
The 18-year-old, Moses Thurairajasingam, was denied bail on charges of assaulting an emergency worker on duty, intentionally causing serious injury, common law assault and making a false report to police.
Police allege he lured officers to his home on a false report.
Court documents revealed he had asked his sister earlier in the day that "if he stabbed a police officer would they shoot him, but she didn't think anything of it".
Thurairajasingam is currently on medication for schizophrenia and depression.
He will face court again in September.
