HGTV's Nicole Curtis From Rehab Addict Mumbles The N-Word While Working On A Home By Accident, Gets Cancelled By Network

HGTV has pulled longtime host Nicole Curtis’ show Rehab Addict after a video surfaced showing the Michigan native using a racial slur while working on a home renovation.
The clip, first posted by Radar Online, shows Curtis growing visibly frustrated while standing on a ladder during a rehab project. At one point, she mutters an expletive that includes the n-word, appearing to blurt it out mid-task.
The network removed Rehab Addict from its platforms Wednesday, the same day new episodes were scheduled to begin airing.
Curtis’ team released a statement Wednesday night to The Detroit News, saying the HGTV star “is deeply saddened by the hurt her words have caused” and accepts responsibility for the remark.
“She takes full responsibility for their impact, regardless of context,” the statement said. The team described the incident as a “slip of the tongue” stemming from exhaustion after “17 hours of physically demanding work and very little sleep,” but acknowledged that intent “does not erase impact.”
Curtis, a Lake Orion native, has been a staple of HGTV programming since 2010, with many episodes centered on restoring historic homes in and around Detroit.
Most recently, she filmed new episodes in the city documenting the renovation of a 1913 house on Doris Avenue in Detroit’s Linwood neighborhood. According to Curtis’ team, the property had previously been described as a “squatter-filled crack house.”
The video’s release and the network’s swift response underscore the growing scrutiny facing public figures over off-camera remarks, even as supporters point to context and intent in Curtis’ case.
