A man narrowly avoided being crushed to death in a freak elevator malfunction that looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
Terrifying CCTV footage captured the moment the lift suddenly shot upward just seconds after the passenger stepped out, sending him crashing to the floor as the doors slammed shut behind him.
The chilling incident took place at a housing complex run by the Gujarat Housing Board in Valsad.
The man, identified as Vatsalbhai Panchal, had just exited the elevator when the malfunction occurred.
Video from inside the building shows Panchal calmly stepping out of the lift as it arrives at his floor. But within a split second, the elevator appears to surge upward at full speed while the doors are still open.
The sudden movement knocks Panchal off balance, sending him tumbling to the ground as the lift rockets away above him.
For a horrifying moment, it appears he could be dragged or crushed by the moving elevator car.
Instead, he narrowly escapes, missing the rising lift by what looks like mere seconds.
According to local reports, Panchal survived the terrifying ordeal with internal injuries, but avoided what could easily have been a fatal accident.
The shocking footage has since circulated widely online, with viewers comparing the near-miss to the kind of elaborate death traps seen in the horror franchise Final Destination.
Many were left stunned by just how close Panchal came to disaster.
Elevator accidents of this kind are extremely rare, but when mechanical systems fail, the consequences can be catastrophic.
In this case, a fraction of a second made the difference between life and death.
