A shocking Iranian drone attack in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport terminals forced the temporary suspension of all airport operations, sending shockwaves through the region and causing widespread panic among passengers and staff.
The Dubai Media Office confirmed the disruption in a statement, saying: “For the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crew, operations at Dubai International (DXB) have been temporarily suspended.”
Eyewitnesses reported seeing black smoke rising from the airport after a loud explosion, with many describing chaotic scenes as flights were grounded and travellers evacuated from terminals.
The strikes come amid heightened tensions following Iran’s initial attacks on 28 February, which reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, leaving a power vacuum at the top of the country’s leadership. Dozens of senior political and military figures were also reportedly killed in the initial operation, sparking fears of regional instability.
Iran’s recent retaliatory drone strikes, including those targeting U.S. military assets, have been met with anger and alarm across the Gulf, with regional governments scrambling to bolster security measures in response to the escalating crisis.
Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, has faced a temporary shutdown as authorities assess the threat and ensure passenger safety, with flights delayed or rerouted while investigations continue.
