A horrifying scene unfolded on the streets of Harlem as a repeat offender with a long criminal history allegedly unleashed a drug-fueled rampage, leaving one cyclist dead and multiple others injured in what authorities are now calling a catastrophic failure of the system.
According to law enforcement sources, 49-year-old Kevin Crosby of the Bronx was allegedly under the influence of PCP when he plowed into victims Thursday night, turning a busy Manhattan intersection into a war zone. Witnesses say the suspect showed no signs of stopping, reportedly “keeping his foot on the gas” even after striking multiple people.
The chaos erupted near West 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, where Crosby allegedly ran over two cyclists, aged 33 and 28, dragging them beneath his vehicle as horrified bystanders scrambled to escape. The vehicle, a red Hyundai Tucson, continued barreling forward before slamming into a parked NYPD cruiser.
Video footage of the incident paints a chilling picture, sparks flying from beneath the car as the victims were dragged along the pavement in a scene that has left the public shaken.
But what’s raising even more alarm is the suspect’s extensive criminal past.
Crosby reportedly has 19 prior arrests, including a 2020 incident in which he allegedly struck pedestrians and sideswiped multiple vehicles in the Bronx. Despite the severity of that घटना, prosecutors ultimately reduced the charges, allowing him to plead guilty to lesser offenses such as reckless driving and endangerment. He was sentenced to probation.
Let that sink in.
A man with a documented history of violent driving incidents, including multiple DUI convictions over the past decade, was allowed back on the streets — only to allegedly strike again, this time with deadly consequences.
Authorities have now charged Crosby with manslaughter and driving while under the influence, but for many, the damage is already done.
This latest tragedy is reigniting serious questions about accountability, prosecutorial decisions, and whether repeat offenders are being allowed to slip through the cracks until it’s too late.
How many warning signs were ignored?
How many chances were given?
And how did a man with this kind of record allegedly end up behind the wheel again, putting innocent lives at risk?
As investigators piece together the full scope of the incident, one thing is clear: this was not an isolated event, but the culmination of a pattern that some say should have been stopped long ago.
