A professional cornhole player who rose to prominence despite being a quadruple amputee is now at the centre of a shocking murder case that has left many struggling to comprehend the details.

Dayton Webber, 27, who has no arms or legs and previously featured on ESPN, is accused of shooting dead 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells during an argument in Maryland before allegedly driving away with his body in the vehicle.

According to investigators, the incident unfolded inside Webber’s Tesla SUV, where Wells was sitting in the passenger seat. A local report from Fox 5 claims police believe Webber fired the fatal shot while inside the car, a detail that has raised as many questions as it has alarm.

What happened next has only deepened the mystery.

Police say Webber pulled over shortly after the shooting and asked two passengers in the back seat to help remove Wells from the car. The pair reportedly refused, instead getting out of the vehicle and calling authorities.

Webber then allegedly drove off alone, with Wells’ body still inside.

The case has drawn widespread attention not only because of the violent allegations but also due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the suspect. It remains completely unclear how Webber, who does not have arms or legs, was physically able to load and fire a handgun.

Authorities have so far indicated they do not believe anyone else was directly involved.

“It’s early in the investigation, but there’s no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in the shooting and that he acted alone,” said Diane Richardson of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Adding another layer to the unfolding case, a video posted in January 2024 has resurfaced online, appearing to show Webber loading and firing a handgun. The footage, now circulating widely, is likely to come under intense scrutiny as the legal process continues.

Webber, who had built a name for himself in the growing world of competitive cornhole, now faces first and second-degree murder charges.

The American Cornhole League acknowledged the allegations in a statement, saying: “The ACL is aware of the reports regarding allegations involving Dayton Webber. This is an extremely serious matter and our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells.”

The organisation added that it would not comment further while the case remains active.

Footage posted in January 2024 appears to show Webber calmly loading and firing a handgun. The clip, which has since spread rapidly across social media, has taken on chilling new significance in light of the accusations now levelled against him.
