A Georgia man got far more than he bargained for when he stepped outside to film what he thought would be a harmless raccoon, only to end up in a chaotic, hill-tumbling battle to save his dog.
Sean Yanes, from Woodstock, had simply gone outside to record the animal when the situation suddenly turned violent.
In shocking footage, the raccoon can be seen lunging at the family’s pug, Ro Ro, latching onto her tail and dragging the small dog across the yard as she struggles to break free.
What followed was a frantic, all-out rescue attempt.
Yanes initially tried to kick the raccoon off his dog, but lost his footing and tumbled down a hill, as the attack continued. Refusing to give up, he grabbed a stick and began striking the animal in an effort to force it to release its grip.
As the chaos escalated, his wife rushed outside to help, with the couple desperately trying to separate the raccoon from their pet.
In a dramatic moment caught on camera, Yanes then grabbed the raccoon in a headlock, sending all three, man, animal, and dog, rolling further down the hill.
While his wife managed to secure Ro Ro, Yanes continued fighting, punching the raccoon multiple times before finally prying it away and ending the terrifying ordeal.
Once the pug was safe, the dazed raccoon was released and eventually retreated.
The aftermath left both man and dog injured.
Yanes was treated for cuts to his leg and a back injury, and received rabies shots as a precaution. Ro Ro suffered an injury to her tail and was also given rabies vaccinations, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Despite the terrifying encounter, both are now recovering, though the incident has left a lasting impression.
The dramatic footage serves as a stark reminder that wild animals, no matter how small or seemingly harmless, can quickly become dangerous.
What started as a simple attempt to film a curious raccoon turned into a fight for survival, one that could have ended very differently if the owner hadn’t intervened.
And while some may question the decision to release the raccoon afterward, one thing is clear, when it comes to protecting a beloved pet, instincts take over, and in this case, it meant going toe-to-toe with a wild animal.
