A Navy sailor has been left horrified after claiming he unknowingly drank from a can containing a decomposing rat, only realizing what he had consumed after finishing the entire drink.
The disturbing incident reportedly took place in Norfolk, where the serviceman said he picked up a can of Monster Energy from a local convenience store as part of his normal routine.
Nothing seemed unusual at first.
He drank the entire contents of the can before noticing anything was wrong.
But what he discovered next left him feeling violently ill.
According to the sailor, it was only after finishing the drink and looking inside the can that he spotted a dead rat sitting at the bottom.
He says he immediately began vomiting and rushed to an emergency room in Portsmouth, where doctors examined him after the shocking discovery.
Medical staff reportedly confirmed what he had ingested, with the case leaving even experienced professionals stunned.
Doctors told him they had never encountered anything like it.
Despite the gruesome nature of the incident, there was a small measure of reassurance.
Physicians explained that the high acidity and chemical composition of energy drinks may actually help limit bacterial growth, potentially reducing the risk of severe infection.
Even so, the sailor was closely monitored for 48 hours to ensure no serious complications developed.
He has since said the ordeal has completely changed his habits, admitting he will never drink from a sealed can again without checking it first.
The incident has raised serious questions about how such contamination could occur, with many asking how a sealed beverage could pass through manufacturing and quality control with a dead animal inside.
For now, the case remains as baffling as it is revolting, leaving one lingering question, how did this happen in the first place?
