A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to fool law enforcement with a fake AI generated video showing a patrol car being broken into.
Alexis Martínez-Arizala, 25, is accused of showing a Seminole County deputy a short three second clip that appeared to show suspects breaking into the officer’s vehicle outside an Academy Sports store in Lake Mary.
The problem?
It never happened.
Authorities say the video was generated using artificial intelligence and was presented as real, prompting concern from the deputy before the claim was quickly investigated.
Store surveillance footage told a very different story, showing no such incident had taken place and exposing the clip as a fabrication.
Investigators later tracked Martínez-Arizala down in San Juan, where he was arrested in connection with the bizarre stunt.
He now faces multiple charges, including fabricating evidence and making a false report to law enforcement.
Officials say the case highlights growing concerns around the misuse of AI technology, particularly when it is used to mislead authorities or create false emergencies.
Martínez-Arizala is currently being held on a $7,000 bond as he awaits extradition back to Seminole County.
While no real crime occurred at the scene, authorities made clear the consequences are very real, warning that using fake videos to deceive police is no harmless prank.
