Terrifying moments aboard a Mississippi school bus turned into an extraordinary act of bravery when a group of middle school students leapt into action after their driver suddenly lost consciousness behind the wheel.

Leah Taylor was driving students home in Hancock County, Mississippi, when she reportedly suffered a severe asthma attack and passed out while the bus was still moving.

Panic spread among the children as the vehicle began rolling forward and picking up speed — but several quick-thinking students refused to freeze.

Student Jackson Casnave rushed to the front of the bus and grabbed the steering wheel in a desperate bid to keep the vehicle from veering off the road and crashing.

At the same time, sixth grader Darrius Clark sprang into action and slammed on the brakes.

“The bus started rolling forward. It started like, gaining speed, so when I clicked the brakes, it about threw me out the windshield,” Clark recalled.

Video from inside the bus captured the chaotic moments as the children worked together to stop the out-of-control vehicle and help their unconscious driver.

Two other students also joined the rescue effort, with one helping administer Taylor’s asthma medicine while others checked on classmates and tried to keep everyone calm.

Thanks to the students’ actions, the bus was safely brought to a stop before anyone was seriously injured.

Taylor later praised the children for their courage and composure during the frightening ordeal.

“I can’t thank these students enough for saving everybody’s life because it could have turned out so much worse,” she said.

The dramatic rescue has since sparked praise online, with many hailing the middle schoolers as heroes for preventing what could have become a devastating tragedy.

Instead of panicking, the students acted within seconds — and may well have saved the lives of everyone on board.
