A shocking video has captured the moment a woman who appears to be at least 70 years old launches a furious attack on a beach manager, chasing him across the sand while repeatedly striking him with her cane.
The dramatic scenes unfolded on the packed Yucatan beach in Mamaia Nord, Romania’s popular Black Sea resort, in July last year. Footage shows the woman, dressed in dark, worn clothing and leaning heavily on a long stick for support, suddenly turning aggressive after the 40-year-old administrator confronted her about begging among the sunbeds.
In the clip, the man can be seen trying to speak to her while holding a phone to his ear. Within seconds, she is swinging the cane at him with surprising force, forcing him to back away. She then pursues him between the rows of white sun loungers and Peroni Nastro Azzurro umbrellas as sunbathers look on, some laughing at the chaotic spectacle.
At one point, the administrator attempts to seize the stick. The woman responds by biting his hand before continuing the chase, raining more blows on him as he retreats. Tourists film the entire episode on their phones rather than intervening.
Police later identified the attacker as a 50-year-old woman from the neighbouring Republic of Moldova. Despite her elderly appearance – which many online viewers initially assumed meant she was in her seventies officers confirmed she had been regularly begging on the beaches in the area.
The beach manager, who called emergency services during the assault, reserved the right to press criminal charges. Constanza County police said the woman was displaying aggressive behaviour when they arrived and that investigations were continuing.
Beach operators in Mamaia have long complained about persistent begging that can disrupt the holiday atmosphere for paying tourists. The Yucatan stretch is one of the more exclusive private sections of the resort, popular with both Romanian and foreign visitors.
No further details on any court outcome have been released, but the clip continues to divide opinion between those who see a desperate woman pushed too far and those who view it as an unacceptable assault on a worker simply trying to do his job.
