A popular Brazilian influencer who built a massive following by roasting everyday annoyances and posting dance videos has died at just 22 days after she shared raw clips of her painful recovery from breast-reduction surgery.
Maria Eduarda Alves dos Santos, known online as Duda Alves, died Sept. 13 in Brasília. Her family confirmed the news two days later. A wake was held Sept. 15 at São João Paulo II Parish.
Alves had more than 750,000 TikTok followers and was famous for her “girl who hates everything” persona, viral dances, and glimpses of life with her boyfriend Enrico. In recent weeks, she turned the camera on a more personal story: a mastopexy she underwent in early September because she said her breasts were disproportionate to her short frame, caused back pain, and made workout clothes uncomfortable.
“I ended up removing half of what I had,” she told followers. “It was more of an aesthetic issue. I wanted to wear clothes without a bra. I wanted to have more freedom.”In a Sept. 8 video, she said it had been about three weeks since the operation and described “a lot of pain.” She said she had been vomiting frequently and crying from the discomfort. Her final TikTok, posted around Sept. 9, pushed back against “sleazy men” who criticized her decision.
A clip now circulating with the news shows Alves before the surgery, red hair, white tank top, black skirt, dancing and talking to the camera in her bedroom, the same energetic style that built her audience.
The Civil Police of the Federal District said they are investigating the death as a suicide but declined to provide further details to protect the family’s privacy. Officials have not linked the surgery itself to her death.
Friends and relatives have posted tributes. Cousin Geovana Alves recalled years of laughter and shared plans. Her father thanked supporters at the wake.
Alves’ last videos remain online, a stark contrast to the carefree clips that first made her a star.
