Miracle Leap: Man Has Just Seconds To Vault Over Motorway Barrier As Runaway Crane Truck Slams Into Wall And Explodes Into A Roaring Fireball

A terrified motorist made a split-second dash for his life after a massive crane truck lost control on a rain-slicked Mexican highway, smashed through concrete barriers and erupted into a towering inferno just metres from where he was standing.

Heart-stopping footage captured the exact moment the man, dressed in a pale shirt, sprinted along the central reservation and hurled himself over the divider as flames shot skyward behind him. The burning wreckage then careered through the very spot he had occupied seconds earlier.

The dramatic clip, which has gone viral after being shared by accounts including Mario Nawfal, shows the chaos unfolding on the Arco Norte motorway near kilometre 115, on the uphill curve towards Ajoloapan in the Ajoloapan-Pachuca stretch. The stretch sits on the borders of the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Puebla.

It began around 4 pm on Monday 28 September when two or three vehicles collided in a rear-end smash. One pickup truck overturned on the wet tarmac, bringing traffic to a halt. Emergency vehicles, including a police pickup with lights flashing, were already on the scene attending to the first crash.

Then the crane arrived.

Unable to stop in time on the slippery road, the heavy platform truck careered out of control. It slammed repeatedly into the concrete containment walls, sending debris flying, before bursting into a sudden, violent fireball. Thick black smoke poured into the grey sky as orange flames consumed the cab.

In the video, the lucky man can be seen standing near the wreckage of the first accident when the out-of-control crane comes into view. He reacts instantly, running along the red-and-white barriers before vaulting over them and dropping onto the opposite carriageway. The flaming truck then ploughs through the barrier line he has just vacated.

The crane operator himself also managed to jump clear of the cab before the fire took hold. A second man at the scene leapt into the roadside vegetation to escape.

The impact triggered a further pile-up involving at least two more vehicles, a pickup and a livestock trailer carrying a cattle cage. Authorities later said around nine vehicles were involved in the chain reaction. Five people suffered minor injuries. There were no fatalities.

The motorway was shut in both directions for hours while firefighters tackled the blaze, emergency crews treated the injured and recovery teams removed the wreckage. A seven-kilometre tailback built up towards Atlacomulco, while the route towards San Martín Texmelucan and Puebla remained closed longer. Traffic was later restored, though congestion lingered.

Witnesses and social media users compared the footage to a scene from a disaster movie. One commenter called it “like something out of Final Destination.” The video, filmed from a passing vehicle on the opposite side, has been viewed tens of thousands of times.

Investigators are still examining exactly why the crane failed to stop. Early reports point to a combination of wet pavement, the sudden blockage from the first crash, and the driver’s inability to brake in time on the curve. Officials have not released the names of those involved.

The Arco Norte, a major toll road linking central Mexico, has seen its share of heavy-vehicle incidents. This one, however, will be remembered for the extraordinary luck of the man who had only seconds to get out of the way of a roaring fireball.
