New Mexico police shoot and kill a suspect that rammed their car after trying to abduct a woman

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —The man shot and killed by a Bernalillo County deputy this week has been identified. For one Albuquerque mother, news of the latest Bernalillo County deputy shooting brings back difficult memories. Manuel Flores, 28, died Monday. He got into an argument with a female significant other at a gas station after he suspected her of cheating. Police said he began hitting her in the head and grabbing her by the waist to try and remove her from the gas station. She was able to escape once he put her in his truck. Police said she and her daughter fled north of Coors, with Flores giving chase in his truck. At this time the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a possible kidnapping or abduction. Flores rammed her car more than once before she got out. Police said he tried to run her over. Shortly after, a deputy arrived on scene. That deputy was Sam Rodriguez. Flores then rammed Rodriguez's patrol car, trapping the deputy. Police said Flores got out of the car with his hands up, as if celebrating, and went towards the deputy's vehicle. Rodriguez fired two rounds. One hit Flores in the chest. He died at University of New Mexico Hospital. Two good Samaritans removed Rodriguez from his car. Flores has a criminal history dating back to 2005. His last arrest came in January and involved the possession of a controlled substance.
