A 31-year-old woman from Colorado who admitted to having sexual relations with a 13-year-old boy in June 2022 will not serve any prison time, despite becoming pregnant as a result of the assault. Andrea Serrano was released shortly after her initial arrest in July of last year, after posting a $70,000 bond.
Serrano was charged by the Fountain Police Department with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, as well as sexual assault on a child. During the investigation, she confessed to having a sexual relationship with the minor.
On Friday, it was reported that Serrano's lawyers had reached a plea deal with prosecutors, which requires her to register as a sex offender, but spares her from serving time in prison. This decision has caused outrage among many who believe that Serrano's actions warrant harsher punishment.
Since her arrest, Serrano has given birth to the child of the teen she assaulted. The infant is currently in her care, but the victim's family is planning to petition the courts for custody of the child. The victim is now 14 years old.
