Skateboard Star And Olympic Bronze Medal Winner, Nyjah Huston, Destroys His Head Attempting To Ride A Rail
35 days ago
If you ever needed proof that skateboarding is not a game and handrails are basically steel death traps, Nyjah Huston just delivered it in the most Nyjah way possible.
The Olympic bronze medalist and all-time street skating menace revealed Monday (January 5) that he suffered a fractured skull and fractured eye socket after absolutely eating it on a massive rail. Casual stuff. Just a reminder that while most of us were nursing hangovers and bad decisions, Nyjah was out there flirting with the Grim Reaper on concrete.
He posted the update himself, because of course he did, alongside photos of him being worked on by medical staff, laid up in a hospital bed, and rocking a gnarly bruise around his left eye that screams “worth it.” His caption summed it up perfectly:
“A harsh reminder of how death-defying skating massive rails can be… Taking it one day at a time. I hope y’all had a better New Year's than me. We live to fight another day.”
Huston, now 31, is basically built different. The guy is a two-time Olympian, an Olympic bronze medalist, and owns 15 X Games gold medals, which is an absurd number no matter how you slice it. He’s made a career out of doing tricks normal humans wouldn’t attempt even with health insurance, and this crash is just the dark side of that resume.
The skate world immediately rallied around him. Tony Hawk chimed in with a simple but heavy “Stay strong; we know you’ll be back,” which is basically the skateboard equivalent of a knight blessing a warrior. Brazilian skate icon Leticia Bufoni also sent support, telling Huston to get well soon.
As of now, there’s no timetable for his return to competition, which is probably smart considering his skull literally cracked. Huston had been expected to show up in multiple contests throughout 2026, but for the moment, survival is the priority.
