Shocking cellphone footage out of North Carolina is exposing yet another collapse of law and order as a police officer was run down by a vehicle while attempting to shut down a dangerous street takeover in a suburban shopping center.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning in a parking lot outside a Harris Teeter on Smith Farm Road, where illegal street racers had transformed a normally quiet retail area into a lawless stunt arena.
Video shows a uniformed officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department approaching one of several vehicles as drivers spun donuts and performed burnouts around cheering crowds. Moments later, the driver floors the accelerator, slamming into the officer and sending him flying onto the hood before he’s violently thrown back onto the pavement.
Amazingly, the officer was able to get back to his feet, but the message was unmistakable, criminals now feel emboldened enough to attack police officers on camera and attempt to escape without consequence.
By daylight, the aftermath was impossible to miss. The parking lot between the grocery store and nearby businesses was scarred with thick black tire marks, a visible reminder of what locals say is an unchecked takeover culture spreading across American cities.
“There’s no rule of law out here,” said nearby resident Sarah Reidy-Jones. “I’m just tired of things like this happening.”
Police say the takeover began around 3 a.m., with dozens of vehicles blocking access points and engaging in reckless maneuvers that put bystanders, property, and first responders at risk. Emergency services confirmed that two people were seriously injured during the chaos.
Authorities later identified Tanaezah Austin as the driver who struck the officer. She fled the scene but was arrested on Monday, according to police.
Multiple arrests were made in connection with the takeover, but critics argue the incident highlights a broader failure to enforce the law as progressive policies and soft-on-crime prosecutors continue to give street criminals the upper hand.
