In a shocking and disturbing incident that has ignited outrage, a U.S. Postal Service worker was arrested after allegedly violently shoving a four-year-old Jewish boy to the ground in Monsey, Rockland County, roughly 30 miles north of New York City. The confrontation, captured on surveillance footage, has left the local community reeling.
According to reports, the incident unfolded Thursday evening as the young child approached a parked USPS mail truck. Without warning, the mail carrier, a 39-year-old Stony Point resident employed by the USPS, reportedly turned and forcefully shoved the boy backward onto the pavement. The footage shows the child briefly falling onto his back, scrambling to pick up his yarmulke, and walking away.
Witnesses say the postal worker had been yelling at children nearby before singling out the boy, turning a routine mail delivery into a violent encounter. The video, first reported by The Monsey Scoop, shows the physical escalation in real time, highlighting the suddenness and severity of the attack.
Authorities responded swiftly. The suspect was identified and arrested the following day, charged with endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault in the third degree, both misdemeanors. He was later released pending a future court appearance.
Monsey, a community with a large Hasidic and Orthodox Jewish population, has long been considered one of the safest places to live in the United States. The attack has shocked residents and local officials alike.
Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht confirmed he personally reviewed the video, describing it as “very disturbing” and praising the police for their rapid response.
New York State Assemblyman Aron Wieder condemned the attack in stark terms: “The attack on a 4-year-old in Monsey is appalling and deeply troubling, never acceptable under any circumstances.” He thanked local officials and police for their decisive action.
The incident has sparked broader concerns about community safety, the conduct of federal employees in public spaces, and the need for swift accountability when violent behavior occurs, particularly against children.
The case remains under investigation, and local authorities continue to emphasize that the safety and welfare of children remain their top priority.
