A morning jog took a surreal turn when a comedian was discovered trapped below street level after falling into a deep hole in the sidewalk, sparking a dramatic rescue involving more than a dozen firefighters.
Pat Sirois, an Austin-based comedian and electrician, found himself at the center of the unusual incident after he somehow plunged into the opening while out in the city.
The strange scene unfolded when a couple out for a jog spotted Sirois stuck below ground, unable to climb out. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, they quickly called emergency services.
What followed was an all-hands response.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked together in a coordinated effort to bring him back to safety. Video from the rescue shows crews using a tarp and carefully positioning themselves around the opening as they prepared to lift him out.
In total, 11 firefighters took part in the operation.
Despite the alarming circumstances, the rescue ended without injury, and Sirois was pulled safely back onto solid ground.
In true comedian fashion, he didn’t waste the moment.
According to those at the scene, Sirois joked with his rescuers after being freed, even mentioning that he could go for a beer after the ordeal, drawing laughs from those nearby.
The bizarre mishap has since gone viral, with many online already wondering whether the fall will make its way into his stand-up routine.
For now, what could have been a dangerous situation has turned into an oddly lighthearted story, thanks to quick-thinking bystanders, a coordinated rescue effort, and a comedian who clearly knows how to find humor, even at the bottom of a hole.
