HOUSTON – A Texas father of five was gunned down in broad daylight Saturday after he tracked his son's stolen pickup truck using GPS, only to be confronted by a repeat violent felon who authorities say should have been behind bars.
Louis Erebia, 56, was fatally shot during a confrontation at a gas station in north Houston on June 6, 2026. A family friend who was with him was also wounded but survived. Harris County authorities quickly arrested and charged 37-year-old London Hogan Sr. with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the nightmare began earlier that afternoon when Erebia's son's Chevrolet Silverado was carjacked at gunpoint in the 11800 block of Tidwell. Erebia and a family friend used the truck's onboard GPS to locate the vehicle at a Chevron station near the North Loop and Airline Drive.
A confrontation followed, leading to a crash. Hogan allegedly opened fire, striking Erebia multiple times. The devoted husband and father was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The second victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot in the back but survived.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed Hogan's arrest and detailed the charges. A judge denied bond during Hogan's initial court appearance.
Erebia's grieving family described him as a selfless protector who loved his wife and five children, including three very young ones, with his whole heart. Friends and advocates held a news conference calling for justice, with one noting the tragedy was "utterly preventable."
Critics point to Hogan's extensive criminal history as a glaring example of a broken justice system. Reports indicate he was a career violent felon recently convicted of felony assault and released on probation, a decision that allowed him back on the streets to allegedly commit this deadly crime.
"This is yet another heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of soft-on-crime policies that put repeat offenders back on our streets," one local observer noted. As Father's Day approaches, Erebia's family will instead mourn the loss of a man who stepped up to help his son, only to pay the ultimate price.
Houston-area residents continue to express outrage over rising carjackings and violent crime in the city. Law enforcement urges anyone with information to contact authorities, while reminding citizens that in today's environment, self-defense preparedness is more critical than ever.
Erebia's family has pleaded for the community to "stand with us and demand justice." Hogan remains in the Harris County Jail, facing the full weight of the charges.
