DOLTON, Ill. – A summer camp meant to provide a safe haven for children in the Chicago suburbs has instead become the center of a police investigation after shocking cell phone videos emerged showing kids fighting while adults allegedly encouraged the brawls.
Videos shared widely on social media appear to capture multiple incidents at the Rucker Athletics Fitness and Training Center in Dolton, where groups of children, some as young as elementary school age, are seen pushing, shoving and engaging in physical altercations inside hallways, gyms and even bathrooms.
In several clips, adults can be heard coaching the young fighters and urging them to keep the noise down, raising serious questions about supervision and safety at the facility.
One parent told local media it felt like "a fight club."
Village leaders acted swiftly, ordering the summer camp closed pending a full review as outrage grows among families who expected a secure environment for their kids during the break.
Dolton officials, working with the Dolton Police Department, shut down operations at the center after the videos surfaced. Authorities are now investigating what happened and have launched a hearing process to determine next steps for the business."This should have been a place where parents could send their children without worry," one community member said in reaction to the footage. "Instead, we're seeing kids being put in harm's way."
The incident has sparked broader concerns about oversight at summer programs across the region, especially as families in the south suburbs look for reliable childcare options.
Fox 32 Chicago first reported on the videos, which show chaotic scenes with children in camp shirts egging each other on as adults stand by or intervene in ways that appear to promote rather than stop the violence. No arrests have been announced, but the investigation remains active. Parents are being urged to contact authorities with any additional information.
Village leaders emphasized that public safety is their top priority and pledged a thorough probe to ensure nothing like this happens again.
The Rucker Center has not yet issued a public statement. This story is developing.
