Drunk Hoosiers Fan Gets A Little Cringy Aboard An American Airlines Flight

An Indiana Hoosiers fan took school spirit to cruising altitude this week, turning an otherwise routine American Airlines flight into a flying pep rally en route to Miami.
Somewhere between the boarding announcement and the beverage cart, one overly enthusiastic IU supporter stood up and unleashed a full-throated “Hoo, Hoo, Hoosiers!” chant, clearly under the impression that the aisle was Assembly Hall and the seatbelt sign was merely a suggestion.
Passengers heading south for the Hoosiers’ basketball showdown quickly realized they weren’t just flying to Miami — they were being drafted into pre-game festivities at 35,000 feet. Video of the moment shows the fan clapping, chanting, and rallying nearby travelers, a few of whom joined in while others stared straight ahead, hoping turbulence would intervene.
The fan later admitted he may have been “a little intoxicated,” which did little to clarify whether the chant was fueled by alcohol, team loyalty, or the dangerous combination of both. Either way, the performance had the confidence of someone who believes the entire cabin is emotionally invested in Big Ten basketball.
To their credit, the flight crew appeared unfazed, allowing the impromptu cheer session to run its course — proof that even airline employees know when it’s easier to let a Hoosiers chant burn itself out rather than fight it.
By the time the plane touched down in Miami, the chant leader had secured his place in IU folklore, reminding the world that Hoosiers fans don’t just travel for basketball — they bring the atmosphere with them, whether fellow passengers asked for it or not.
