A teenage boy has died after falling from a restricted cell phone tower in New York City, in what appears to be a tragic attempt to capture a social media photo.
Timothee Englund, 16, plunged from the structure at Bushwick Inlet Park in the New York City neighborhood of Williamsburg after climbing the enclosed tower, which had been sealed off to the public.
Authorities say the teen fell approximately 15 feet from near the top of the structure, suffering catastrophic injuries.
The tower was surrounded by a chain-link fence intended to prevent access, but reports indicate there was a gap that allowed entry, raising questions about safety at the site.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after a 911 call was made, finding the teenager unconscious and unresponsive.
He was transported in critical condition to Bellevue Hospital, where doctors fought to save his life.
Despite their efforts, he later died from his injuries.
The devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many highlighting the dangers of climbing restricted structures, particularly in pursuit of photos or videos for social media.
It remains unclear whether the teen was alone at the time or if others were present when the fall occurred.
Officials have not yet released further details as the investigation continues, but the tragedy has already sparked renewed concern over urban exploration risks and the growing pressure on young people to capture daring content online.
