Every once in a while, a concept car drops that makes you go, “yeah that’s cool,” and then every once in a while you get something like this that makes you question if the designers were even in the same room.
Enter the DS X E-Tense, a car that basically said, “what if we built two completely different vehicles and just glued them together?”
Because that’s exactly what it looks like.
On the driver’s side, you’ve got a full-blown performance machine. We’re talking 540 horsepower, aggressive styling, gullwing door, the whole “I’m about to go way too fast for no reason” vibe. It’s basically screaming, “let me drive.”
Then you walk over to the passenger side and it’s like stepping into a completely different universe.
Suddenly, it’s all about luxury and chill. Transparent floor so you can just stare at the road like you’re in some sci-fi movie, a floating massage seat, and yes, an integrated espresso maker because apparently this thing wants you caffeinated while you do absolutely nothing.
It’s half race car, half luxury spa.
And somehow… it works?
What makes this even crazier is that this isn’t totally out of nowhere. Car companies have been flirting with asymmetry for a while. The Jaguar D-Type had that iconic uneven design for performance reasons, and even the Hyundai Veloster pulled off the whole “different doors on each side” thing.
But this takes it to another level.
This isn’t just styling, it’s basically two philosophies smashed into one car, one side for driving, one side for being driven. Manual versus autonomous. Chaos versus comfort.
And honestly, it feels like a preview of where things are going.
Because let’s be real, cars are heading toward this weird middle ground where sometimes you want control, and sometimes you just want to sit back and let the car do everything while you sip an espresso like you’re in a Bond villain’s lounge.
