Wild cellphone footage has captured the moment a shirtless man was repeatedly stunned, sprayed, and ultimately shot by police in broad daylight in downtown Miami, just steps away from one of the city’s busiest event weekends.
The dramatic confrontation unfolded outside the Eve Hotel on Biscayne Boulevard on Saturday, after officers were called to reports of a heated argument spiraling out of control.
According to the Miami Police Department, the situation quickly escalated when the man allegedly became aggressive toward responding officers.
In the disturbing video, the suspect is seen standing shirtless near the hotel valet area, appearing agitated as officers surround him. Moments later, a female officer positioned behind him raises a Taser and fires as he turns toward her.
The man collapses to the ground, but the chaos only intensifies.
Several officers rush in, with one appearing to deploy pepper spray at close range as they attempt to restrain him. Despite being stunned and sprayed, the man is then seen getting back to his feet and moving toward the officers once again.
Seconds later, multiple gunshots ring out, sending panic through the scene as an officer opens fire.
The suspect is eventually overpowered by a group of officers, who bring him to the ground and place him in handcuffs. Separate footage shows him restrained with bindings around his upper legs and ankles as police struggle to maintain control.
Manny Morales confirmed that the man survived the shooting.
“It appears that the offender has non-life-threatening injuries at this time,” Morales said, adding that one officer was also hurt and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The violent encounter unfolded just across the street from the world-famous Ultra Music Festival, where crowds had gathered in huge numbers for Miami Music Week.
Despite the proximity to the packed festivities, police noted the incident did not occur during active festival hours.
Still, the incident has rattled nerves among visitors, even as some insisted the situation could have been far worse.
