A Minnesota woman says a simple trip to try a new burger restaurant turned into a disturbing encounter with what she described as a makeshift political checkpoint run by anti-ICE activists.
According to her account, she and her family were driving to a dive-style burger spot they had been recommended when they noticed a small group of protesters holding large signs spelling out “F ICE.” She said the surrounding neighborhood was also covered in similar signage posted in front yards.
The situation escalated when they attempted to leave.
As they drove back toward their hotel, the woman said the same group stepped directly into the roadway and blocked their car from moving. She claims one protester stood in front of the vehicle while appearing to look up their license plate on a phone, refusing to let them pass.
“So now we need permission to drive from these people?” the woman said, describing the moment.
The group, which she referred to as part of the local “resistance,” allegedly would not move until after examining the plate. No police presence was visible at the time, according to her description.
She said family members who live in the area were not surprised and told her the scene has become increasingly common. Restaurants and local businesses, they claimed, have emptied out as residents choose to stay home rather than deal with ongoing demonstrations and disruptions.
“I cannot imagine being a sane person and living in this city,” the woman said, adding that normal daily activity has slowed while activists continue to occupy streets and neighborhoods.
