A chaotic traffic accident in Kuala Lumpur was triggered when a two-year-old child opened a car door into moving traffic, setting off a six-vehicle crash on one of the city’s busiest roads, according to Malaysian police.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. Friday on Jalan Tun Razak, near the stretch leading from the Kampung Pandan roundabout toward the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The crash involved four cars and two motorcycles.
Police identified the cause as a child seated in the back of a Honda City who suddenly opened the vehicle’s left rear door. Investigators believe the child safety lock had not been engaged, allowing the door to be opened from inside while the vehicle was in traffic. The child was reportedly being held by a relative at the time.
A 25-year-old motorcyclist riding a Suzuki V-Strom SX was traveling between lanes when he struck the open door, lost control, and crashed into multiple vehicles. A second motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man riding a CFMoto 675 NK and traveling behind the first rider, was unable to avoid the collision and was also involved in the crash.
The Suzuki rider was transported to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment, while the second motorcyclist suffered minor injuries, police said.
Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act of 1987, which covers careless and inconsiderate driving. Authorities are reviewing video footage as part of the investigation.
