Shocking bodycam footage has laid bare the devastating aftermath of a family argument that ended in tragedy, showing a distraught boyfriend clutching his head moments after a Texas man fatally shot his own daughter.
British visitor Lucy Harrison had been staying with her father in the US when the argument spiralled into deadly violence. Her father, Kris Harrison, had relocated to America years earlier, leaving Lucy to grow up largely in the UK.
Police bodycam footage captures the grim scene after the shooting, as officers confront a visibly shaken Harrison, who insisted the gun discharged by mistake.
According to Harrison, the fatal moment unfolded during a heated exchange about firearms.
“She asked me, ‘Do you have a gun?’ and I said, ‘Yes,’” he told officers. “I pulled it out and it just went off. As I was taking it out, it went off while she was standing there.”
The court later heard that tensions between father and daughter had been simmering for some time. Harrison admitted the pair had previously been embroiled in a “big argument” over Donald Trump, clashing repeatedly over his conservative political views.
On the day Lucy died, the disagreement reportedly returned to guns.
Harrison claimed he retrieved the weapon simply to show her — before hearing what he described as a sudden bang.
“I heard a loud noise,” he said. “Lucy immediately fell.”
But senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish raised troubling questions about that account, telling the court the mechanics of the shooting suggested otherwise.
“To shoot her through the chest while she was standing would have required him to be pointing the gun at his daughter, without checking for bullets, and pulling the trigger,” she said.
While acknowledging Harrison’s behaviour, Devonish stopped short of calling it intentional.
“I accept he was a teaser, and on the balance of probabilities, that is what he was doing,” she said. “I also accept he did not realise the gun was loaded.”
The inquest also heard that Harrison allegedly struggled with alcoholism and had consumed a 17-ounce carton of white wine on the day of the shooting.
Despite the harrowing circumstances, Harrison avoided manslaughter charges, with Lucy’s death ultimately ruled a tragic accident.
