An eighth-grade teacher and music producer was among two people killed when gunfire erupted inside a crowded Oakland bar early Saturday morning following a popular downtown street festival.
The shooting unfolded around 3:30 a.m. at EZ's Lounge, a well-known hip-hop venue in downtown Oakland, located just blocks from City Hall.
Police say the violence began after an argument broke out inside the bar as crowds lingered in the area following the city’s popular First Friday street festival.
The confrontation quickly escalated, and gunfire rang out inside the packed lounge, sending patrons scrambling for safety as chaos unfolded.
Seven people were struck by gunfire during the incident.
Authorities confirmed that two victims died, while five others were wounded and rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials say the surviving victims are expected to recover.
The woman who died at the scene was identified as Latetia “Teesh” Bobo, a 33-year-old eighth-grade teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo.
Bobo was also known in the Bay Area hip-hop community as a writer and producer, balancing her work in education with creative projects in music.
A second victim, a 25-year-old man, later died at the hospital around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, though authorities have not yet publicly released his name.
Investigators say none of the seven victims were believed to be the intended targets, suggesting the gunfire may have erupted indiscriminately during the altercation.
Video circulating online shows terrified patrons fleeing the bar as shots rang out, with people seen rushing into the street as the violence unfolded.
Police responding to the scene detained several individuals and recovered multiple firearms, though officials have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the shooting.
