A new geopolitical flashpoint is emerging after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will not participate in any U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran, a statement that is fueling outrage and questions across social media.
Carney made the remarks on March 15, 2026, while speaking to reporters at Toronto Pearson International Airport, stating that Canada would not assist the United States in offensive actions targeting Iran.
The announcement came just days after footage circulated online showing a Shia cleric reportedly linked to Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps arriving in Toronto and seeking asylum.
The video, dated March 11, allegedly shows the cleric walking through arrivals at Pearson Airport, sparking fierce debate about whether figures connected to Iran’s ruling structure are quietly entering Canada while tensions escalate in the Middle East.
The IRGC was formally designated a terrorist organization by Canada in 2024, a move intended to crack down on Iranian regime activity and networks operating abroad. Yet critics say enforcement has been weak.
Reports from Canadian authorities suggest dozens of cases involving suspected IRGC-linked individuals have been investigated, but according to statements from the Canada Border Services Agency, only one deportation has been carried out so far.
