A female tourist died in a horrifying accident at a Chinese adventure park after reportedly warning staff that her safety restraints were not secure moments before she was pushed from the platform.
The tragedy unfolded on May 3 at Maliuyan Adventure Park in Huaying City, Sichuan province, where the woman, identified as Liu, was preparing to ride a massive “Waterfall Swing” suspended high above a cliffside waterfall.
According to reports circulating online, the ride towers approximately 168 meters, or around 550 feet, above the gorge below.
A disturbing video linked to the incident has sparked outrage across social media after viewers claimed the woman could be heard repeatedly shouting that she was not properly secured before the ride began.
Witnesses alleged Liu screamed “It’s not tied tight!” twice as park employees continued preparations and allegedly ignored her concerns.
Moments later, she was sent off the platform.
According to reports, Liu plunged violently and slammed into the cliffside during the descent.
She was later pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.
The horrifying incident has reignited scrutiny over safety standards inside China’s rapidly expanding adventure tourism industry, which has seen a boom in high-risk attractions, including glass bridges, cliff swings, and suspension rides designed to attract thrill-seeking tourists.
Critics online accused operators of prioritizing profits and viral social media appeal over proper staff training and rigorous safety procedures.
Many users expressed outrage that the woman’s alleged warnings were not acted upon before the fatal ride began.
“This wasn’t an accident, this was negligence,” one commenter wrote online following the incident.
Others called for stricter regulation and oversight of extreme tourist attractions across the country.
Adventure parks in China have faced repeated controversy in recent years over safety concerns, overcrowding and equipment failures at several popular attractions.
