A shocking video from inside a North Carolina gym has captured the terrifying moment gunshots rang out in the parking lot, sending workout enthusiasts scrambling for cover, but one brave bystander stood out by rushing to help a bleeding victim instead of running for his life.
The dramatic footage, widely shared on social media, shows panicked members of Muzz's Gym in North Wilkesboro dashing past purple workout equipment and scattered debris as the sound of gunfire echoed from outside on Friday, May 8, 2026.
While many fled the scene in fear, one man remained calm, kneeling beside an injured victim and offering support until emergency services arrived – a heartwarming act of humanity amid the horror.
Police say the violence erupted around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the gym on 201 Elkin Highway. What began as a heated argument quickly escalated into a physical fight before a gunman opened fire, striking two men.
Both victims suffered serious gunshot wounds and were rushed first to a local hospital before being airlifted to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. One remained in critical condition in the days following the shooting, while the other was listed as stable. Their names have not been publicly released.
Isaiah Kwasean Graham, 21, was later identified as the suspect. He turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday and now faces a laundry list of serious charges, including:
Assault with a deadly weapon
inflicting serious injury with intent to kill
Going armed to the terror of the public
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Discharging a firearm within city limits
Graham appeared in court last week, where a judge warned he could face more than 23 years in prison if convicted on the most serious counts. He remains in custody without bond and is due back in court on May 29.
North Wilkesboro Police Chief Brad Mathis described the incident as isolated, with officers quickly descending on the scene where they found the two victims in the parking lot.
The shaky handheld video circulating online provides a raw, unfiltered look at the panic that unfolded inside.
Gym-goers can be seen reacting instantly to the pops of gunfire, with some sprinting toward exits while debris litters the floor around weight machines. Yet in the midst of the stampede, the selfless bystander’s actions have drawn admiration online.
Commenters hailed him as a hero for choosing compassion over self-preservation.‘In a world where everyone runs, this guy ran toward the problem to help,’ one viewer wrote.
Local outlets like WXII 12 News and The Wilkes Record have followed the story closely, but it has not yet attracted widespread national attention.
