According to witnesses and local news reports, the suspect burst into Aha's (or Uh-Huh) Soul Food restaurant in a plaza off South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, brandishing a machete and pursuing another man. Video captured by bystanders shows the chaotic scene unfolding in the parking lot and inside the restaurant, with customers scrambling for safety as the attacker slashed wildly and even struck a parked vehicle.
One eyewitness, the restaurant owner, described the terrifying moments: a man holding what appeared to be a machete forced his way in, chasing his target. The pursued individual, who was armed, responded in what authorities are treating as self-defense, shooting the attacker and dropping him in the parking lot. The machete-wielding suspect was hospitalized with severe injuries.
DeKalb County Police are investigating the shooting. Preliminary reports indicate the incident stemmed from a personal dispute that escalated dramatically. No charges have been announced against the shooter as of Tuesday, though police said they are seeking to identify and interview him.
The episode has sparked fresh debate over self-defense rights and the importance of the Second Amendment in protecting innocent lives amid rising street violence. Supporters of gun ownership hailed the armed customer's actions as a textbook example of a "good guy with a gun" stopping a potential massacre in a public space.
