Former 4th Grade Teacher Loses Her Mind In Court When Sentenced To Just One Week Prison For Stalking Her Ex 33 Times At His Job

A former fourth-grade teacher in Ohio completely lost it in court after learning she’d only serve seven days behind bars for an obsessive stalking campaign against her ex-boyfriend.

Hannah Freeman, 27, who taught at Ranger High-Tech Academy in North Ridgeville, broke down in tears and appeared to hyperventilate as Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge David Matia sentenced her Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The dramatic courtroom meltdown, captured on video that’s now circulating widely online, shows the blonde educator gasping and crying hysterically right after hearing her fate.

Freeman had been accused of following her ex — another local teacher — to his Westlake school at least 33 times over a 30-day period. Police tracked her vehicle using Flock cameras, confirming she showed up on 19 different days.

She also allegedly broke into his car and stole two backpacks containing laptops/computers and his wallet, worth about $1,100. On the day of her arrest in November 2024, she followed him to work again and was found sitting in his vehicle.

Freeman was originally hit with felony menacing by stalking charges but pleaded guilty in June to reduced misdemeanors: disorderly conduct, obstructing official business, and possessing criminal tools.

At sentencing, she told the judge she regretted her actions.“I regret the incident. I definitely acted out of emotion,” Freeman said. “I will take steps that are necessary to move on from this incident, and you will not see me back here again.”

Judge Matia wasn’t having it. He called the case “frankly a bizarro breakup between two professionals” and noted the pre-sentence report painted a grim picture of her behavior. “You should’ve known that it was over,” he said.

Then came the sentence: seven days in Cuyahoga County jail, 18 months of community control, 90 days of GPS monitoring, mental health counseling, and a no-contact order with the victim. She also got house arrest with work release.

That’s when Freeman completely unraveled.

Her attorney, Michael Kinlin, tried to push back, claiming they had an “agreed sentence” that didn’t include jail time and even moved to withdraw her plea.

Judge Matia shut him down hard.“You didn’t agree with me, Mr. Kinlin, and I am charged with sentencing,” the judge fired back. He later added, “Your bad practice is not my problem,” after criticizing the lawyer for not consulting him about sentencing beforehand.

The viral video of the hearing, which also includes bodycam footage from Freeman’s November 2024 arrest showing her in a red car at the scene, has people online stunned by the contrast between her relatively calm demeanor during the arrest and her full-blown panic in court.

Freeman had been placed on unpaid administrative leave by North Ridgeville City Schools after the incident and never returned; her contract expired in June 2025.

The ex-boyfriend reportedly told police the repeated unwanted visits to his work and home caused him significant stress and mental anguish.

For a woman once entrusted with shaping young minds, the case has left many shaking their heads at how quickly a “bizarro breakup” spiraled into criminal charges and a very public courtroom breakdown.
