CLERMONT, Fla. – Two Florida elementary school principals were arrested just hours apart for allegedly driving drunk in the same vehicle, raising fresh questions about accountability in public education and the judgment of those entrusted with shaping young minds.

Jennifer Jimenez, principal of Pinecrest Academy Tavares, and Christina Alcalde, principal of neighboring Pinecrest Lakes Academy, both face DUI charges after separate traffic stops by the Clermont Police Department early Wednesday morning, according to bodycam footage obtained by FOX 35 Orlando and local reports.

Around 2 a.m., officers pulled over a Jeep after it drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a curb. Jimenez, behind the wheel, admitted to drinking earlier in the day and was taken into custody. Her passenger, Alcalde, was also determined to be too impaired to drive and was sent home via rideshare, police said.

But the bizarre story didn't end there. Roughly two hours later, the same Jeep was stopped again, this time with Alcalde at the wheel. She was reportedly on her way to the jail to post bond for Jimenez when officers arrested her on suspicion of drunk driving as well.

Both women refused DUI testing and have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The arrests come as bodycam video shows flashing lights illuminating the nighttime stops, with officers dealing with the educators in what one local described as a stunning display of poor decision-making.

"The fact that these are the people in charge of schools and making decisions like that, they need to go," one commenter reacting to the news posted online, capturing widespread frustration echoed in replies.

Pinecrest Academy's governing board issued a statement acknowledging the incident and said it consulted with its national co-employer throughout the process.

"Based on that guidance, [the board] has taken the appropriate administrative actions to address this matter," the statement read.

The dual arrests have sparked outrage among parents in the Lake County area, many of whom expressed disbelief that two individuals responsible for the safety and education of children could be involved in such an episode. Critics cited the incident as another example of elite disconnect, in which those in positions of authority appear to believe the rules don't apply to them.

Clermont police have not released additional details, but the case remains active. Both principals are expected to appear in court as the legal process moves forward.
