HUNTSVILLE, Mo. — In a heart-stopping moment captured on bodycam, a team of U.S. Marshals and local deputies went crashing to the ground when a second-story wooden deck suddenly gave way beneath them while serving a warrant on a convicted child sex offender.

The dramatic footage, released this week, shows nine heavily armed officers stacked up on the balcony of an apartment complex on July 21 as they prepared to enter the unit of 26-year-old Jacob Alexander Munoz. Without warning, the entire deck detached from the building and collapsed, sending the lawmen tumbling into a heap of splintered wood and debris.

“Whoa! Hey! Hold on!” officers can be heard shouting as the structure fails. Moments later, fellow deputies rush in to pull their colleagues from the wreckage.

Five of the officers, a mix of deputy U.S. Marshals and Randolph County sheriff’s deputies, were hospitalized with broken bones, torn muscles, and concussions. Remarkably, every single one of the nine men who fell walked away without life-threatening injuries. Supervisors credited rigorous training for the fact that no firearms were discharged during the chaotic fall.

The raid was part of Operation Adam’s Watch, a multi-agency sweep targeting sex offenders who stopped complying with registration requirements. That morning alone, the task force had 30 such warrants. Munoz, a Tier 1 registered sex offender previously convicted of possessing child pornography, was not home at the time. He later surrendered to authorities.

U.S. Marshals officials called the outcome a “miracle.” One supervisor noted that the length of the collapsed decking made it almost unbelievable no one was more seriously hurt.

This is the kind of hidden danger America’s law enforcement faces every day — not just from dangerous criminals, but from the structures themselves while putting their lives on the line to keep communities safe from predators who refuse to follow the law.

The brave officers involved are recovering, and the suspect is now in custody. Once again, our men and women in uniform answered the call, and paid a physical price for it.
