Live television is already stressful. Live television where something absurd pops up behind you while you’re trying to sound serious is basically impossible.
That’s exactly what happened during a recent news broadcast in Japan, and the result was pure chaos in the best way.
The anchor was in the middle of reading a straight-faced crime story about a delivery truck driver who had been arrested for blowing through 30 red lights. Very serious. Very “we need to talk about public safety.”
Unfortunately, the screen behind him had other plans.
Instead of showing footage of the truck or the suspect, the broadcast accidentally displayed a fluffy white dog sitting in the driver’s seat, staring ahead with the kind of expression that says, “Yes, I know what I did, and I’d do it again.”
At first, the anchor tried to power through like a true professional. You can almost see him mentally chanting, don’t look, don’t laugh, just read the teleprompter. But the longer that dog stayed on screen, the harder it became.
A few seconds in, he started giggling. Then the giggles turned into high-pitched laughter. And then it was over. He couldn’t finish the report.
