A Florida woman has been found guilty in federal court after posting a series of shocking TikTok videos in which she called for supporters of former President Donald Trump to be shot on sight.
Desiree Doreen Segari, 41, of Sarasota, was convicted of interstate communication of a threat to injure after prosecutors said she used social media to encourage violence against people wearing pro-Trump clothing.
Federal officials said the disturbing videos were posted on TikTok and quickly drew attention due to their explicit references to firearms and political supporters.
In one clip presented as evidence in court, Segari allegedly told viewers: “So if we all get our guns and use our Second Amendment right … and you see somebody with a MAGA hat, ‘pew pew’ that’s what we do, that’s the way, it’s the only way.”
Prosecutors argued that the videos crossed the line from political commentary into direct threats of violence, particularly as the comments were broadcast online where they could reach a wide national audience.
The jury ultimately agreed, finding Segari guilty of the federal charge tied to threatening communications across state lines.
Under federal law, the offense carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison.
Authorities say the case highlights growing concerns about the role social media platforms play in spreading violent rhetoric and threats tied to political tensions in the United States.
Federal prosecutors did not immediately release additional details about how the videos first came to the attention of investigators, but such threats are often reported to law enforcement by viewers or flagged through monitoring systems.
Segari is now awaiting sentencing, which has been scheduled for May 5 in federal court.
